How to Convert a .pub File to JPG or PNG

A .pub file turning into a JPG picture of a flyer

Quick answer

Turn a Microsoft Publisher .pub file into a JPG or PNG picture without Publisher: one page or every page in a .zip, offline, on Mac, Windows and Linux.

Download free

To convert a .pub file to JPG or PNG without Microsoft Publisher, open it in Korva and use File › Export › Picture. You can save one page, or every page as numbered pictures in one .zip. It runs offline on Mac, Windows and Linux, so the file never leaves your computer.

A picture of a page is often more useful than the original file. A flyer goes on Facebook, a bulletin cover goes in an email, a certificate goes on the school website. None of those places take a .pub, and since Publisher left Microsoft 365 on October 1, 2026, plenty of people no longer have the app that would save one out.

Convert a .pub to JPG or PNG in Korva

  1. Open the .pub in Korva. Download Korva, open it and choose your file. Korva opens the pages at their original size with text boxes and pictures where Publisher put them, as an editable copy. Your original .pub is never changed.
  2. Open the picture export. Click File › Export and choose Picture under Share.
  3. Choose the format. Next to Format, choose PNG or JPEG. For JPEG, pick a Quality: Maximum, High, Medium or Low.
  4. Choose the pages. Use the arrows under the small preview to show the page you want, or choose all pages, a picture each, in one .zip under Pages.
  5. Save. Click Save picture, choose where to save it, and click Save.

The help guide on saving a page as a picture has screenshots of each step.

Want to fix something first? Because the file opens as an editable page, you can change the date on last year’s flyer or swap a photo before you export.

PNG or JPEG?

PNG JPEG
Best for Text, logos, flat colour, line art Photos and photo-heavy pages
Edges Stay crisp Can soften slightly at lower quality
File size Larger Much smaller
Quality setting None needed Maximum, High, Medium, Low

For a text-heavy bulletin or a certificate, choose PNG. For a flyer that is mostly one big photo, JPEG at High is a good balance of sharpness and size.

What size are the pictures?

Korva saves pictures at 144 pixels per inch, twice the page’s size in points. That works out to:

Page size Picture size
US Letter (8.5 × 11 in) 1224 × 1584 px
A4 (210 × 297 mm) about 1191 × 1684 px
Tabloid (11 × 17 in) 1584 × 2448 px

That’s plenty for a social post, a website, a slide or an email. There’s no setting for a larger size, so for printing, use a PDF instead: File › Export › PDF, or Press-ready PDF for a print shop, which keeps your photos at their original quality. See how to convert a .pub to PDF.

Saving every page

Choose all pages, a picture each, in one .zip under Pages, and Korva saves one picture per page inside a single .zip, numbered in page order (for example newsletter-01.png, newsletter-02.png). Unzip it and the pages are ready to upload in order, which is handy for a multi-page newsletter posted as an image carousel.

Other ways to get a picture from a .pub

  • Publisher itself, if you still have a one-time-purchase copy installed: File › Save As and choose PNG or JPEG. Microsoft 365 subscribers can no longer open Publisher.
  • Convert to PDF first, then to an image. The free browser converter turns a .pub into a PDF without uploading it, and most computers can then save a PDF page as a picture (Preview on a Mac, for example). It’s two steps, and you can’t edit the page on the way.
  • Online converters. Many sites convert PUB to JPG, but they upload your file to their server. Avoid them for anything with names, addresses or member details.

Is it free?

Picture export counts as an export of your project, the same as a PDF or a printout. A new Korva user can export their first complete project as often as they like, free and with no watermark. Korva Pro is a one-time $49 purchase that adds every other project, batch conversion of a whole folder of .pub files, editable .kva saves, mail merge and master pages.

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert a .pub file to JPG without Publisher?

Yes. Open the .pub in Korva, then use File › Export › Picture and choose JPEG. Korva runs on Mac, Windows and Linux and works offline, so the file is never uploaded.

What resolution are the pictures?

Korva saves pictures at 144 pixels per inch, twice the page's size in points. A US Letter page comes out at 1224 × 1584 pixels. There is no setting for a larger size; for printing, export a PDF instead.

Can I save every page at once?

Yes. Under Pages, choose all pages, a picture each, in one .zip. Korva saves one picture per page, numbered in order, inside a single .zip file.

Should I choose PNG or JPEG?

PNG for pages that are mostly text, logos or flat colour, because edges stay sharp. JPEG for photo-heavy pages, because the file is much smaller. JPEG has four quality levels, from Maximum to Low.

Is picture export free?

Picture export counts as an export of your project, the same as a PDF. A new user can export their first complete project as often as they like for free; Korva Pro ($49 once) adds every other project.
