Getting started
Install Korva, open your first .pub file, find your way around and save your work.
- How do I install Korva on a Mac? Download the Disk image (.dmg) from korva.korsund.com/download, open it, and drag Korva into Applications. Open Korva from Applications or Launchpad. The first time, macOS asks whether you want to open an app downloaded from the Internet; click Open.
- How do I install Korva on Windows? The simplest way is the Microsoft Store. Search for Korva or use the Store badge on korva.korsund.com/download, then click Get or Install. The Store keeps Korva updated and shows no warning screen. You can also download Installer (.exe) from the download page and run it; if Windows says Windows protected your PC, click More info, then Run anyway.
- How do I install Korva on Linux? Download a file from korva.korsund.com/download. The AppImage runs on any 64-bit distribution. Make it executable with
chmod +x, then run it. On Ubuntu, Debian or Mint you can install the .deb withsudo apt install, and on Fedora, RHEL or openSUSE the .rpm withsudo dnf installorsudo zypper install. - How do I open a Publisher (.pub) file? Click Open a file… on Korva's start screen (or press ⌘OCtrl+O), pick your .pub file, and it opens with its pages, text boxes and pictures where Publisher put them. Korva works on a copy, so your original .pub file is never changed.
- What's on the Korva screen? Korva's window has the ribbon across the top (File, Home, Insert, Page Design and the other tabs), the Pages panel on the left, your page in the middle, and the Format pane on the right, which shows the settings for whatever you select. Export PDF is at the top right, and the status bar along the bottom shows the page number and zoom.
- How do I start a publication from a template? On the start screen, click Browse all templates (or choose File, then New), pick a category or search, and click a template. It opens as a new, unsaved publication with sample text in square brackets for you to replace. To give an existing publication another template's look, use Page Design, then Change Template.
- I'm coming from Publisher. What's different in Korva? Korva's ribbon uses Publisher's tab names (Home, Insert, Page Design, Mailings, Review, View), and most shortcuts are the same. Publisher's task panes are replaced by one Format pane on the right. Korva opens .pub files but saves its own .kva files (Pro) and exports PDF; it can't save back to .pub. The short in-app tour is under Help, then Coming from Publisher.
- How do I save my work in Korva? With Korva Pro, click Save at the top left (or press ⌘SCtrl+S) and choose where to put the file. Korva saves an editable .kva file you can open and change later. On the Free plan you can't save a .kva file; export a PDF instead with Export PDF, which is free for your first project. Korva never saves over your original .pub file. Korva Pro
- How do I update Korva? When a new version is out, Korva tells you as it starts. Click Download & install, then Restart now when it's done. To check yourself, click the Help tab, then Check for Updates (on a Mac, also Help, then Check for Updates… in the menu bar). If you installed Korva from the Microsoft Store, the Store updates it for you. Updates are free.
