Text and fonts
Text boxes, linked stories, fitting text, styles, lists, spelling and Find and Replace.
- How do I add and edit text boxes? Click Home, then Text Box (or Insert, then Text Box) and start typing. Double-click any text box to change its words, and press escEsc when you're done. Select words to format them, or select the whole box to format all its text at once.
- How do I link text boxes so a story flows from one to the next? Select the box whose text doesn't fit, click the link button beside it, then click an empty text box (on any page) or drag on empty page space to draw one. The text that didn't fit flows into it. The Format pane's Text flow section shows the chain and has Break link after this box.
- How do I make text fit in a text box? Select the box and, in the Format pane's Text tab, set Text fit, then AutoFit to Shrink on overflow, Best fit or Grow text box to fit. Or make the box bigger, or link it to another box so the story continues there. Text that doesn't fit is not printed or exported.
- How do I add columns, a drop cap or WordArt? Select a text box and open the Format pane's Text tab. Set Columns under Text fit, and Drop cap under Fancy. For a curved headline, click Insert, then WordArt, type your text, pick a shape and click Insert.
- How do I use text styles and theme fonts? Click in a paragraph and choose a style from Home, then Styles (or click Title). To change every paragraph that uses a style, open Styles, then Manage styles…, edit the style and click Save and update all. To change the fonts of the whole publication, click Page Design, then Fonts and pick a pair.
- How do I make lists, tab stops, indents and line spacing? Select the paragraphs and click Bulleted list or Numbered list in the Home, then Paragraph group. For tab stops, click in the paragraph and choose Tabs… in the Format pane's Text tab. Indent and line spacing buttons are in the same Paragraph group.
- How do I find and replace text? Click Home, then Replace (⌃HCtrl+H, the Control key on a Mac too) or Home, then Find (⌘FCtrl+F). Type what to look for in Find and the new text in Replace, then click Replace for one match or Replace all for every match in the publication.
- How do I check spelling and use AutoCorrect? Click Review, then Spelling or press F7. Korva lists the words it doesn't know with a suggestion; click Change or Ignore. Spelling dictionaries exist for English and Polish only; Thai and other languages aren't spell-checked. AutoCorrect settings are on the Review tab.
- How do I insert symbols, the date and hyperlinks? Click in the text where you want it, then use Insert, then Symbol, Insert, then Date & Time (⌥⇧DAlt+Shift+D for today's date) or Insert, then Hyperlink (⌘KCtrl+K). For a link, select the words first. Links stay clickable in the PDF you export.
