Opening .pub files
What Korva tells you about an imported file, missing fonts, old Publisher versions and whole folders.
- What do "Layout kept" and "Layout reflowed" mean? Layout kept means Korva read the page layout of your Publisher file: pages, text boxes and pictures are where Publisher had them. Layout reflowed means Korva could read only the text and pictures, usually because the file is older than Publisher 2003 or damaged, so it laid them out on new pages for you to rearrange.
- Why did Korva replace a font in my Publisher file? The font isn't installed on this computer, so Korva shows the closest font it has and keeps the original font name in the document. File, then Info lists each one as Not on this computer — shown as *another font*. Install the missing font (TrueType or OpenType), restart Korva and open the file again, and the real font comes back.
- How do I check an imported Publisher file before I print it? Click Review on the note at the bottom of the Format pane (or open File, then Info). Korva lists everything worth a look in the imported file, such as replaced fonts, low-resolution pictures and text that doesn't fit, each with a Go to or Page link that takes you straight to it.
- Can Korva open files from old versions of Publisher? Yes. Files from Publisher 2003 and every later version open with their layout kept. Files from Publisher 2002, 2000 or 98 open too, but Korva can read only their text and pictures, so it lays them out on new pages (Layout reflowed). If you still have Publisher 2003 or later, save the old file again there and Korva will open the new copy with its layout.
- How do I check or convert a whole folder of .pub files? On the start screen, click Rescue a folder of .pub files, then Scan a folder. Korva checks every .pub file in the folder and its subfolders and marks each one Ready, Review, Needs fix or Couldn’t open. Scanning is free; making PDFs of the selected files with Create N PDFs needs Korva Pro.
- Why won't my .pub file open in Korva? If Korva says Could not open *file name* — it may be damaged or use a format Korva does not support, the file usually isn't a working Publisher file: it is damaged, empty, or a different kind of file with a .pub name. Try an earlier copy or a backup, and run the folder through the Rescue Center, which tells you why each file couldn't be read.
